Dosage and Administration
Surface and equipment disinfection
For Routine Disinfection for all surfaces such as earth, wood, and concrete. All farm equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected prior to use or transfer between sites to remove any potential disease-causing organisms and cross contamination.
Dilution rate: 10 gm of ProteQTM to 1 L of tap water (1:100)
Application: Using a pressure washer or other mechanical sprayer, at an application rate of 300 mL/m2
To estimate the total surface area to be disinfected, including walls and ceilings, multiply the total floor area by 2.5.

Water systems disinfection
All water systems can potentially contain some viral and bacterial contamination, especially header tanks where dust and debris can accumulate. Disinfection will clean the system and eliminate viruses, bacteria and fungal growth.

Terminal Disinfection |
1:200 - 1:100 |
Isolate header tank at the mains and drain off to drinker points farthest from tank. Clean out any gross soiling and debris. Refill with water and add the appropriate volume of ProteQ powder, thoroughly stir and leave for 10 minutes. Flush system through to all drain-off points and leave for a further 50 minutes before draining system and refilling with clean water. |
Continuous Disinfection |
1:1000 |
Dose header tank as required or apply through water system dosing equipment. |

Disinfectant foot dips preparation and use
Disinfectant foot dips act as a demonstrable and highly visible sign that biosecurity and disease prevention is taken seriously. It help prevent disease transfer onto and around farm sites.
-Place foot dips at all main farm/site entrances, and at entrances to farm buildings and ensure that all personnel and visitors use them.
-Replace solution once it has either become soiled or after a period of 4-5 days.
-How to Use a ProteQ Disinfectant Foot Dip
(1) Using a stiff bristled hand brush, remove as much organic matter as possible from the boots remembering to pay particular attention to the sole.
(2) Place boot into the foot dip and scrub using a soft hand brush making sure that the whole boot is washed thoroughly with disinfectant solution and paying particular attention to the sole.
(3) Replace disinfectant solution on a daily basis disposing of soiled disinfectant responsibly around the farm.
-How to Make a ProteQTM Disinfectant Foot Dip
Fill a suitable container with water adding 50 g of ProteQTM to every 5 L of water (1:100 dilution rate), stir until dissolved.
Provide two hand brushes with every foot dip. One to remove organic matter prior to disinfection and one to use within the foot dip to wash the boot with.
Aerial disinfection
-Misting, Aerial Spraying, Cold and Thermal Fogging:
To control organisms that can be introduced into a building during the setting up procedure, and to disinfect inaccessible areas of the building and the air, use either a fine mist sprayer or thermal fogging machine to apply ProteQTM disinfectant solution evenly.
Aerial Disinfection |
Dilution Rate |
Application |
Misting/Aerial Spray |
1:200 |
Using either a pressure washer or knapsack sprayer on its finest mist setting and apply at 1 L of ProteQ solution per 10 m2 of floor space. |
Cold Fogging |
1:100 |
Use a mechanical mister to apply the ProteQ solution at a rate of 1 L per 10 m2 of floor space. |
Thermal Fogging |
1:25 (4%) solution in an 85:15 water ProteQTM Fog Enhancer mixture |
Using a thermal fogging machine apply the prepared solution at 1 L per 40 m2 of floor space. |
-Aerial Disinfection in the Presence of Livestock:
ProteQTM can be misted in the presence of livestock or poultry at a dilution rate of 1:200 (0.5%). (*A cold fogger or mister should be used, as the noise of a thermal fogger may disturb the animal’s behavior.)
